When Alvaro proposed to Jennifer on the top of Beehive Mountain in Acadia National Park, they knew they wanted a destination wedding in Maine. They fell in love with the Asticou Inn, in Northeast Harbor. When we began to talk design, their main goal was to celebrate their two diverse families. Alvaro was born and raised in Guatemala, and Jennifer is from a Jewish Family. Therefore, I used Guatemalan Fabric as runners on the bar and cocktail tables as well as on the lounge area. The fabric was all free trade and used to support Guatemalan villages. For favors each place setting had a handmade and hand painted butterflies that were brought over by Alvaro's family from his home village. The color palette was red and orange and lots of candlelight. Calla lilies are native of Guatemala and were used throughout the floral design. To celebrate the Jewish Heritage the traditional ceremony took place under an amazing Chuppah that had fabric canopy from Israel. They had a blessing and cut the challah bread that was made in a local kosher bakery. To Honor Jennifer's work as a teacher, in lieu of escort cards, we used a chalkboard to show their guests to their tables. Also, to accompany dessert a beautiful fruit tray was set on each table of fruit and berries native to Maine and Jennifer's home town. As well as a tray of famous peanut brittle and chocolates made in Jennifer's hometown. The two families shared each other customs, and including a pinata for all the children and the Hora. It was an incredible event that neither family would soon forget.
