Stylish and Chic Winter Weddings

During the winter there is an abundance of different evergreens available and it might be hard to imagine having stylish and chic flower arrangements. You can pick up trimmings at your local tree farm for very reasonable prices.  Cedar greens, holly, blue spruce, white spruce, white pine, frasier fur and balsam fur make wonderful choices for touches of winter for your decor.

Expert advice from gay wedding planner, Bernadette Smith of 14 Stories

~Gay Wedding Tradition: Pre-Ceremony Champagne~

More often than not, and enough to call it a gay wedding tradition, guests to gay weddings are greeted with passed sparkling wine and water before the wedding ceremony.

Why?  It sometimes happens with straight couples.  Why is this so common with gay weddings?

The main reason is that gay weddings are different.  Most attendees to gay weddings are straight and have never been to one before.  They don’t know what to expect and may be a little on edge.

The passed sparkling water and wine lets your guests know that this wedding will be different.  That it will be fun.  And that yes, let’s take the edge off a little bit.

We did it at our wedding and it was a big success (even when the photographer accidentally kicked over a poorly placed glass during the ceremony).  Mazel tov!

Have you been to a wedding where this has been offered before?  Wasn’t it fun?

Wedding Tip of the Day from Maine photographer Jennifer Stone

Maine Photographer, Jennifer Stone, wrote an Expert Advice article on myKPW giving some tips that are helpful while planning a wedding. We thought this advice on the “The First Look” was great!

myKPW: Jennifer Stone Photography

The First Look

Spend more time enjoying your reception and visiting with your guests by taking pictures before the event. Taking pictures before the wedding allows you to feel relaxed and stress free while transition from ceremony to reception by eliminating the hassle of trying to take pictures between the two. The best part is, by not being worried about making your guests wait, you will have more time to get that perfect portrait of your special day.

Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island Wedding Cakes: Wild Orchid Baking Company, Vendor Spotlight

Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island wedding cakes, Wild Orchid Baking Company, is featured in the vendor spotlight!  Wild Orchid Baking Company, a member of my Kate Parker Wedding, shares a little bit about their experience in the cake industry and gives us some insight into their business.  Check out their work and their info below!

Number of years in business: I’ve been a professional pastry chef for the past 8 years, doing wedding cakes for the past 3 years. Before opening my own bakery I was the Pastry Chef at Locke Ober in Boston and The Bedford Village Inn in NH.

What makes you stand out?: The best thing about our cakes is that they taste as good, or better, than they look. Because of my restaurant background I truly focus on flavor. Every cake we serve is entirely baked from scratch, fresh for your wedding (never frozen!) We are an all butter bakery and don’t use any shortenings, trans-fats, preservatives, etc. We are also able to accommodate a wide variety of allergies and dietary needs, without sacrificing flavor. Design wise, hand sculpted sugar flowers are one of my specialties.

What’s the favorite part of your work? My favorite part of my work is seeing the photos of the happy couple enjoying their first slice of cake together. Nothing feels better than knowing you’ve helped make their day even more special. I also love the design process. My favorite cakes are the ones inspired by elements from the rest of the wedding like dress details, invite designs or fabric patterns.

If you have any spare time, how do you spend it? I just opened the retail bakery this past June, so spare time is difficult to come by these days! When I do have time I’m usually hanging out with my husband, Mike, and our funny little cat, Lemon. I love going to the beach, especially in the winter. It’s where I like to think and regroup.

Which charity are you donating to and why? I chose to donate to all three charities because they are all great causes and I just couldn’t pick one! I love that being a part of My Kate Parker Wedding includes supporting such important organizations.
