Wedding Tip of the Day from Wingate Salon & Spa

Today’s wedding tip comes from New Hampshire wedding beauty, Wingate Salon & Spa!  Wingate Salon & Spa featured a great Expert Advice article on my Kate Parker Wedding on the importance of hair and make-up trials before your wedding.  Check out this great tip below and visit my Kate Parker Wedding to view the full Expert Advice article.

Wingate Salon & Spa

Share with your stylist and make-up artist how you want to feel as a bride.  Good communication is the key to a successful trial so do not hesitate to share your thoughts and ideas.  Pictures from magazines of what you want are helpful to guide the stylist and make-up artist.  A picture of your gown is also helpful to fully understand the type of wedding look you are going for.  Together you and the service provider will find a design that will suit your ideas, your dress, your face, your skin type, and your hair length and style.  Keep in mind that the pictures of models that you rip from a magazine may have completely different hair and skin tones.  The stylist and artists are really going to work with your individual needs and let you know if you are a good match for that particular fashion.

Number of Years in the Business:

I have over two decades involved in creating and designing one of a kind clothing. Motivated by my passion for creating, I am self taught designer and dressmaker.

Pricing:

My pricing is based on my labor and materials and the client is responsible for all of labor and materials.

Labor for full length gown with straps or sleeves is $2000. Finished full length gowns with straps or sleeves including materials are $3500-$4000.

Labor for strapless, full length gowns is $2500, due to the elaborate construction of the bustier which holds the gown securely to the bride-to-be’s body. Finished strapless, full length gowns including materials are approximately $4000 – $4500.

These prices include consultation, pattern drafting, toile construction, fashion fabric construction, numerous fittings and possible travel to the client. Short gowns or gowns with an unusual or elaborate design may lower or raise the labor cost, which is thoroughly discussed and agreed upon with the client. A 50% down payment payed in cash or check  is needed to cover the costs of materials. This amount determined after the design and materials are agreed upon. All fabrics, trims, linings and notions are the client’s responsibility.  Sometimes materials not foreseen in the project are needed, the designer reserves the right to add those to the final bill. In the event of cancellation, the labor and materials will be tallied up the point of cancellation. The difference of the that amount will be re-paid to the bride, if less than the 50% of the deposit, the difference is paid to the designer, if more than the 50% of the deposit. Final payment is due at garment delivery.

What makes you stand out?

Several points:
My absolute commitment to service to the bride. My clients are my assets, I treat them as precious commodities.

I have great eye for what works on a woman’s body. My clients can be assured that what I am creating for them will make them beautiful, confident and carefree on their wedding day.

What is the favorite part of your work?

I love the whole creative process, collaborating with my clients, bringing my clients joy. A very, very special aspect of my business is bride-to-be’s first fitting of her gown. The reality of her becoming a bride has hit home- it’s quite emotional. It’s a privilege to witness this.

If you have any spare time, how do you spend it?

Walking the Cliff Walk in Newport, Rhode Island, dining out, cooking at home, reading, laughing, traveling.

Which charity(s) are you donating to and why?
As an international flight attendant for a major United States air carrier, I have the privilege of volunteering for UNICEF’s, “Champions for Children” charity. On long haul flights, I make a P.A. to the passengers describing the program and that even the smallest donation can make a difference to a child. For example, 6 cents buys an oral re-hydration salt packet to help combat dehydration. I explain that I will be coming through to collect donations and answers any questions. I can’t express how fulfilling and uplifting it is to experience the generosity of strangers! This charity has collected millions and millions of dollars in the last decade. People so want to make a difference, and Champions for Children is an easy way for them to do so.

How to Say “I Do”: A Ceremony Planning Series featuring Wedded Luxe

This week, the my Kate Parker Wedding ceremony series, How to Say “I Do”, features NYC/Westchester County wedding planner, Wedded Luxe.  Wedded Luxe shares 5 tips to keep in mind when planning your wedding ceremony.  Check them out below!

My advice as a wedding planner:

myKPW: Wedded Luxe

1) Don’t over look the decor for your ceremony.  Every element of your wedding should have a wow factor.  I think using all white flowers and/or decor with a hint of your wedding colors is a nice touch. This will help your ceremony stand out but it will still be cohesive.

2) Pre-ceremony music helps create the mood of your ceremony.  Hire musicians to serenade your guest as they enter the ceremony venue.

3) If you are having an early morning ceremony, treat your guest to a light snack by serving tea, coffee and mini baked goods. If it’s a hot summer day, a refreshing class of lemonade or ice tea is a refreshing surprise.

4) If you have the space to change your ceremony layout, a round formation gives all your guest a good seat in the house.  It’s a nice break from the traditional groom’s side and bride’s side layout.

5) Make your ceremony meaningful. Even though the emphasis is placed on your reception this is the moment you become husband and wife.  Choose an officiant or house of worship that connects with you.  They shouldn’t just read a script.  The words should have meaning to you and represent your union.  If it’s meaningful to you, it will be to your guest as well.

Wedding Tip of the Day by PhotoBooth Planet

Today’s tip is from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island wedding guest experience, PhotoBooth Planet!  PhotoBooth Planet shared a great expert advice article on my Kate Parker Wedding about incorporating a PhotoBooth in your wedding.  Check out the tips below and visit the full Expert Advice article on my Kate Parker Wedding.

PhotoBooth Planet

Have the photobooth available starting with the cocktail hour.  Guests are often looking for something to do, and the curiosity factor is high.  If possible keep the photobooth as close to the action as possible.  You want the guestbook to be full and your guests to go home with a stack of photo-strips.  The closer the booth is to the bar or to the dance floor the more use it will get.

Think through beforehand who you want to get in the booth with at your reception.  You’d be surprised how many brides and grooms almost forget to go in the booth at all because there is so much going on.  Our photobooth attendants try to make sure that, at the very least, the happy couple gets in the photobooth together.  It is meaningful to have each get pictures with their parents if possible.

Wedding Tip of the Day from Cookie Creatives by Jennifer

Today’s wedding tip comes from New England and NYC/Westchester County wedding favors, Cookie Creatives by Jennifer!  Jennifer shares a tip for incorporating cookies into your wedding’s table top design.  Check out this great tip by Jennifer and visit the full expert advice article at my Kate Parker Wedding!

Pear Place Card Cookies

A good starting point to find inspiration for the cookie design is to start with the paper goods being used in the event (invitation, programs, menu cards, etc…).  It is often not hard to find an element to pull onto the cookie whether it’s hand-painted flowers to mimic letterpress or lace, a monogram, or simple stripes.  The cookies below used a three flower design which was prominent on all pieces of their paper suite.  We did two different cookies alternating alphabetically.  The ovals featured the flowers stenciled on while the flowers on the rectangles were hand-piped.
