Royal Fashion — the dress, fabulous!

Did you wake up at the crack-of-dawn just to catch the first glimpse of Kate’s, now Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, simply breathtaking gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen?  According to the Official Royal Wedding site, Kate wanted her dress to be a combination of tradition and modernity…and I must say she achieved it with perfection.  She looked completely classic and stunning.

We’re sure her gown will be replicated through the years, and it will definitely be an inspiration for many brides and brides-to-be, but just in case you don’t necessarily want a replica, we’ve scoured our dress gallery for some gowns that have some of the features of Sarah Burton’s masterpiece.

These two Romona Keveza gowns have the lace details of Kate’s dress presented in a bit of a different way. The dress on the left has the elegant full-lace sleeves similar to Kate’s dress. Whereas the bridal style on the right not only has the lace bodice and train, but also has a beautiful lace trimmed veil.

These next two gowns are Jewel and Priscilla of Boston. Both of these gowns still have lace incorporated, but instead achieved a similar look by doing a lace overlay on the neck of the dresses. Under the lace overlay there is still the traditional sweetheart neckline that is so popular.

The following two classic gowns by Ines Di Santo and Christos feature the both the sweetheart neckline and lace details of Kate’s dress. These dresses are a more traditional take on Kate’s dress with a  floor sweeping, a-line silhouette.

The last two dresses are designed by Ian Stewart and Ines Di Santo. Again, these dresses have similarities to her royal highness Catherine Duchess of Cambridge’s amazing gown…but with a twist. They have a lace overlay, but with a more simple body. These dresses are a great option for the bride that chooses to have more coverage on their big day.

spotlight | Mat & Ash Photography

We’re so excited to introduce you to the delightfully witty duo, Mat & Ash Photography — and while they’re located in New Hampshire, Mat and Ash are certainly not hesitant to travel throughout New England.

A little history of us…
Mat comes from America’s dairyland (also known as Wisconsin) and Ashley is from tree filled New Hampshire. We met at Hallmark Institute of Photography in teeny tiny Turners Falls, Massachusetts.  After graduating in June ’08, we took off  together, we have moved around a bit, we started in the west coast then did a wedding season in the mid-west desperately trying to find our place and eventually landed back in the New England area in October ’09. We met so many wonderful clients and vendors in the area we couldn’t help but want to stay. We are currently working in our third season as Mat & Ash Photography and couldn’t be happier!

About our business…
We work with our clients directly and sit down and figure out what would work for them, their needs, their wants and most importantly their budget! We have 4 different packages starting at $1,995 and working up all including at least 6 hours of photography, engagement session and print credit. We do customize packages for our clients with smaller budgets. Our most popular package includes a DVD with full printing rights for $2,695.

About our style & how we stand out…
We have very different styles. Mat is so good at the industrial, commercial, wide photos and Ash captures the lovey dovey, in your face beautiful moments. We are very different and come together so beautifully.  We have a very fresh and modern style with a photojournalistic approach we capture moments that are not seen by all. We get to know our clients and really capture who they are.  We owe mother natures a lot of credit though, we use her beautiful sunshine as most of our light. People notice us because of our unique way of capturing people and their personalities.

Our favorite locations & environments for shoots…
We love working outdoors! We love fields that go on for miles, beaches with docks jetting out into the lake, rustic old red barns or industrial downtown scenes. We have worked all over New England in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and one of our favorite places has been downtown Portsmouth it is a very hip town with so much history everywhere, it is so beautiful. One place we have been wanting to do an engagement session at is Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH.  It is beautiful with apple trees, buildings, farms, and beautiful rolling hill that would be perfect for a picnic.

Our favorite part of our job…

Mat: My favorite part of work would have to be exploring new locations to use for future shoots, after taking the photos is the post production process, editing down each image – to the finished product for our wonderful clients.

Ash: I love a lot about my job but I would say that the one of the best parts is meeting new clients. Getting to know each couple and their love story. Being able to capture them together in the moment that they will remember forever is so special to me.

How we spend our spare time…
We both have other jobs along with our photography, Mat works in retail and Ashley is a nanny. When we are not working we are hanging out with our little dog Daisy. We love to travel, go to concerts, being outdoors, anything at the beach and spending time with our friends. We also share a love for Lady Gaga.

Where can you find Mat & Ash
We have been very blessed with all the exposure we have received. We were featured on Style Me Pretty with a wedding shot on Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford NH. We were on One Wed’s blog Savvy Scoop with a wedding shot on a beautiful vineyard in Hollis NH. We were featured on Glamour&Grace with a sun soaked engagement session in Concord NH.  We also won Best Engagement Photos on Disney’s Wedding Blog

Interview and Giveaway | Lovely Wedding Details

We were thrilled to come across Lovely Wedding Details on Etsy last week! Kara Lamerato, owner of Lovely Wedding Details, makes adorable handmade place card holders, centerpieces, wedding and bridal shower favors and embellishment pieces! I personally love the nautical themed cork placed card holders, they are right up my alley! After spending some time admiring her crafts, I decided that I had to reach out to Kara to find out more about her products and where her inspiration comes from! She discusses this and more such as her pricing and customization options! She was also generous enough to put together a really amazing giveaway! She has agreed to give one lucky reader a 20-piece set from her new Vineyard Collection.  Reader’s choice of color – Peony Pink, Lavender Mist, French Lilac, or Tiffany Blue.(a $60 value)! In order to enter the contest simply comment on this blog post! The winner will be announced on May 6th. Thank you again Kara and good luck to all! {BH}

PW: How did you start Lovely Wedding Details?

KL: I was enchanted by the process of planning my own wedding in July 2010. I was having trouble finding place card holders that I liked, so I turned to my creative side and decided to make something myself! Even though my wedding was not a “vineyard” theme, I was inspired to use wine corks because of the neutral color, interesting texture, and I loved the idea of repurposed materials. I added a gold-trimmed ivory ribbon to complement my ivory tables, and viola! The result was elegant, personalized, and just beautiful.

Quite simply, Lovely Wedding Details came from me missing the wedding planning process. I had an amazing time creating the pretty little details for my own wedding, and afterwards, I kept getting creative ideas for this and that. I had some leftover place card holders from my reception, and began experimenting with adding embellishment details on the ribbons – crystals, pearls, organza flowers. A girlfriend told me about Etsy, and Lovely Wedding Details was born. In addition to place card holders, I also do wedding and bridal shower favors and embellishment pieces for DIY menus, programs, or escort cards.

PW: What is your most popular item?

KL: Definitely the “Create Your Own Set of Place Card Holders” package. This product is so much fun, because a bride can choose from literally dozens of combinations of colors and embellishment options. There haven’t been any “trend” combos so far this year, which is a testament to the creative spirit of my clients! I’ve done everything from a mixed Grab Bag set for a 250-guest event, to a bride who wanted her pieces left completely unadorned to show off the look and texture of the corks.

PW: What are some of your customization options?

KL: I offer countless options for customizing my products. The beauty of my store is that brides have the option to be as involved in the creative process as they’d like. The more hands-on client can design each individual piece, while another bride may simply give me her event colors and say “do whatever you think will look beautful!” I’m open to all custom requests for a specific color, different materials, or new interpretations of my designs – the sky is the limit when it comes to collaboration and creativity.

PW: What is your production/shipping Time like?

KL: My standard production and shipping schedule depends on the size of the order and the time of year. During spring and summer months, the average is about one week per 25 pieces (so a set of 150 would run about 5-6 weeks). I definitely believe in flexibility and want to accomodate all circumstances, so I can always arrange an expedited turnaround time for a bride who has limited time before her big day.

PW: Do you ship internationally?

KL: I ship everywhere in the United States and Canada via USPS Priority Mail
