Dress Your Wedding Like You Dress Yourself | Advice from MMD Events

We all have gone through stages of styles as we’ve grown up … and I’m not gonna lie, I’ve gone through stages where I wore girly Timberlands and Polo tees, Hollister and Abercrombie gear with butterfly clips, and the real kicker in my younger years – fleece vests and braces with jeans and sneakers – just awesome.

But as the years have gone by, I have – like we all have – fell into my own little style.  I’ve discovered the power of black shirts and jeans and killer high heels.  I have discovered that I am a simple gal with a simple style.  But whatever your personal style is, your wedding should reflect a style that you are comfortable with, something that reflects you and your partner – nothing that you aren’t totally in love with.  MMD Events wrote this great expert advice article about tackling your wedding as if you were tackling your wardrobe, with your own style that you love.  Check it out below and visit MMD Events on my Kate Parker Wedding!

As we age, we start building a signature style. We begin to frame ourselves, how we want others to experience us. When we shop we ask ourselves – is this me? Does this fit my style? Smart shoppers know that a true bargain is something that we really wear – that truly becomes a part of our wardrobe. We all agree on these rules.

So why do we throw out all of these rules when we plan our wedding?

An engagement brings on the temptation to shop and to bargain hunt, then suddenly everything wedding and bridal goes into the cart. When it’s all said and done you reach your wedding day with a bag full of wedding trinkets that were cheap individually, but have added up to several hundred dollars collectively and none of it truly reflects your style.

Here’s a perfect example: A bride of ours shopped so much at JoAnn Fabrics that when she returned all the random stuff she had bought “on sale”, it was enough to cover her lighting design bill!

How do you dress your wedding as you dress yourself? Ask yourself these questions:

- Does this work for me?
- Does this reflect the wedding style I’m trying to achieve?
- Where will I put this?
- Is it exactly what I want?
- How does this purchase affect my price per table?
- Is it worth it?

Remember to design your wedding thoughtfully and with attention to detail – just as you would do for yourself!

    Real Weddings | Top 10 Picks for 2010 {part one}

    In no particular order, below are our favorite weddings found on Prepare to Wed in 2010.  Ok, these are just the first five, so stay tuned for more.  And let us just say that this was no easy task!

    emilie inc. photography:  An astronomer meets interior designer in New York though decides to marry in the midcoast region of Maine at a private residence.  Even though it was a fog-filled day, the wedding was simply beautiful.

    The Feds Studio: With all that is offered in California, the bride and groom chose to marry in Ashley’s hometown at their family’s local dairy farm, The Hornstra Farm. If my family had this farm, I would too!  Vintage milk glasses were fill with freshly squeezed lemonade and cold chocolate milk.

    Petal’s Edge Floral Design:  This mod wedding featured a vibrant color scheme of yellow, silver and black.  With pin cushion protea for a bridal bouquet and bridesmaids carrying yellow craspedia or yellow coxcomb bundles, this was certainly an original event.

    Fat Orange Cat Studio:  We fell in love with this intimate backyard wedding in Cambridge, Massachusetts which was certainly a family affair with father’s hanging up lights and a huppa made by a good friend.

    Concept Photography: How can you not love this wedding!  The colors were incredible and the texture of the centerpieces with hanging peacock feathers were amazing!

      Ok, be honest.  Raise your hands if you ever thought that a phone would one day be your wedding day “photographer”? There shouldn’t be a lot of hands up or you’re lying!  Well, it certainly happened. Florida wedding photographer Brian Adams Photo Graphics along with videographer Simply Cinematic teamed up with some pretty fab editors to shoot an entire wedding on the iPhone.  You’ll just have to check it out for yourself.   {ls}

        Pilster Photography | Vendor Spotlight

        Chad Pilster is the owner of Pilster Photography out of central Florida. They’re willing to travel anywhere and photograph every aspect of each wedding, no matter what it may be. They’re so creative and detailed, it was hard choosing which pictures to post! Read on for more details about Pilster Photography.

        Number of Years in Business:

        17 years. Pilster Photography started when I was high school and sold football photos to the boosters. I then freelanced for weekly newspapers where I was growing up. Next I attended SJSU for photojournalism, I interned at a weekly and two daily newspapers, and continued to freelance. After graduating I worked full-time for a daily newspaper for 6 years and have constantly freelanced for other newspapers and magazines, such as Seventeen. I have been documenting weddings for the past 3 years.

        Pricing Information:

        Pilster Photography’s basic package starts at $2950 for unlimited coverage, but what we can offer is endless, so contact us about our many options.

        What makes you stand out?

        Couples work hard to make a wedding original and I work hard to capture it that way. Using pictorial photojournalism I strive to bring a style that is documentary and outside the box. I am passionate about creating images people might not expect.

        To really take advantage of the documentary style most of our packages include unlimited coverage, so we can be there from the beginning until the end of the wedding day.

        Pilster Photography not only tries to tell the story different, but the company philosophy is to be different in every way. We are always looking for creative ways to be outside of the box, from our photos to our marketing material. We love to work with other creative and industry professionals who are looking to do the same. We even love to talk to our couples about ways to make their weddings visually interesting and even more unique.

        What’s the favorite part of your work?

        That I get a chance to have a new experience. As a journalist I was always experiencing something new, it was an opportunity to be in places I’d never get to go as a regular person. As a wedding photojournalist I am always experiencing a different tradition, a new way of getting ready, an interesting venue, some far off location or something else I’ve never captured before.

        If you have any spare time, how do you spend it?

        “If you have any.” For anyone who runs a small business, you know that free time is sparse. I have a few passions. One is with my family. Five days a week I stay at home with my newborn. Triathlons and the many aspects around them, including instructing other beginning triathletes, training for them, gaining sponsors and volunteering to help run them takes some of my other free time. I weighed 255 in high school and am now down to 190.

        Photography is my profession, but I try to make it as little like work as I can. Any creative person who has done the same thing for more than 5 years will tell you that you can easily get burned out, and unless you can keep finding projects to keep you fresh it’s going to feel like work. I take any other free time I have to work on projects that take me to a new experience.
