Unique displays!
It’s not just about WHAT you display… it’s HOW!

Check out this amazing display of DC area “Local favorites” from DC wedding planner Elegance & Simplicity photograph by The Observatory:

The new edition of InStyle Weddings featured some eye-catching displays, here are a few:

We did a wedding in St. John USVI last year that had a great late night snack display. Two tables…

one with sliders and vintage Coca-Cola bottles for the “party animals”… a second table with cookies and cartons of milk for the “sleepy heads”…  The guests loved it and were taking pictures of the display and of each other with the snacks! Such a fun touch!

This is a great opportunity for an added personalize touch– be creative! Think about interesting ways to display snacks, favors, etc for your guests!

Are there any interesting displays you have seen or ideas you have?

    Food for thought for Newlyweds

Newlywed bliss and tons of newlywed gifts…sounds great right?  Now that you’re moved in and opened all the wedding gifts, you may be wondering “Why did I ever register for this?”.  Most newlywed couples will agree that they might have gotten a tiny bit overzealous with the registry gun and may have even ended up with everything they asked for!  Not to worry…we’ve come up with a few tips and ideas on how to utilize all the sparkly new kitchen equipment stuffed in your cabinets.

Blender: So you’re looking at your top-of-the-line blending technology in awe and wonder….and possibly wondering what to make first.  While your first inclination might be a margarita, there are so many things you can make instead!  Work your inner kitchen diva and whip up a batch of spicy summer gazpacho shooters.  Williams-Sonoma has a great recipe that you can use the next time you end up hosting a neighborhood BBQ.  You could also use your new blender to jump start a healthy summer diet with fresh fruit protein smoothies in the morning.  Missing your girlfriends?  Blend up one or more of the facial recipes at HomeBeautyRecipes.com and invite them over for a fun face mask and a movie!  If that margarita still sounds best…..you could surprise your best friend or hubby with an impromptu fiesta and let go amigo!  You can also check out the drink recipe box at Hostess with the Mostess for some fantastic frozen beverage ideas.

Panini Press: These great little machines elevate the sandwich from boring lunch option to savory party fare.  Panini parties make for really simple and really fun entertaining!  Invite a few friends over and lay out several sandwich ingredients for them to choose from.  You can pick a theme to make the entire party/meal flow together, such as Italian Summer or All American.  With the Italian theme you could serve any of the following: Italian sodas and wine for beverages, chicken, prosciutto, salami, any selection of Italian cheeses, roasted red peppers, fresh basil or fresh sage for sandwiches and then tiramisu for dessert!  Worried you don’t know how to use your press?  Sounds like a great time to do a test run dinner with your husband.  Have him read the instructions while you assemble two sandwiches.  Pop them in the press and watch the clock.  You’ll have a mini dinner party for two in minutes! NapaStyle.com has some great recipes and goodies that will instantly update your ideas on “sandwiches”!

Wine Decanter: – Not only does this glassware improve the taste and bouquet of red wine, it also looks great as a wine bar or kitchen shelf decoration.  Don’t pack your decanter away somewhere.  Display it and be inspired to enjoy a nice glass of wine with your husband.  Decanters improve even inexpensive bottles of wine, so take twenty minutes and unwind with your man tonight after work…just because you can!

Custom-Made verses Salon Wedding Gowns | Expert Advice from Wynne Bailey

Have you envisioned the style, color, and fit of your wedding gown ever since you were a little girl? There is much uncertainty about whether or not that dress will be found at a bridal salon. However, Wynne Bailey Custom Made Wedding Gowns of Rhode Island can create that dress for you! Wynne Bailey aims to fit your body type, personality, and style while designing the dress of your dreams. Look below for a few key questions in deciding between custom-made and bridal salon dresses. Then be sure to check out the full expert advice article on myKPW!

      Q.     What is the difference between buying a dress in a salon vs. going to a designer?

      A.     The kind of individual attention you receive from a designer. The focus is entirely on YOU. The designer is there to create the dress of your dreams. They work with you to create your dress.

      Q.     Is having a dress custom made for you more expensive than buying a ready made dress?

      A.     Well, yes and no.  Wynne Bailey Custom Made Wedding Gowns start at $3000, the prices varies based on the amount of work and detail you want. Designers are able to adapt designs to your budget – add a detail here, take out a little something there – which is another benefit of going the custom made route.

      Q.     How does the process of creating a wedding gown begin and end?

      A.     I love the bride’s ideas and pictures, they give us a starting point.  We discuss her likes and desires, then I begin to sketch some of these ideas.  A pattern is created and a toile is sewn and fitted. After the toile – a white muslin garment that is a copy of the dress – fits to perfection, then the beautiful fashion fabric is cut and sewn. It takes 3 or 4 fittings to create the dress and three to four months to complete. The final fitting is so moving, as the bride-to-be’s sense of becoming a bride becomes a reality. A very special moment for all present.

Thank You Note Dos and Don’ts

Writing your thank you notes is perhaps one of the most important things you can do for your guests after your wedding.  And while the task of writing 100 notes is daunting and time consuming, it’s definitely a necessity.  The best thank you note includes the gift-givers names, the gift that they gave you and something about it.  For instance:

Dear Aunt Mary and Uncle Fred,

We’re so glad you were able to attend our wedding. Thank you so much for the waffle maker- we’ve used it several times already and have really enjoyed it.

          All our love,

          Tammy and John

Or, if you’ve been given money:

          Dear Grandma and Grandpa,

Thank you so much for your gift {or Thank you for your generosity}. We plan on using your gift as part of our down payment (on purchasing a dishwasher/stove/ other item).  It was very much appreciated.

          Love,

          Tammy and John

and if you’ve just been given a card:

          Dear Cousin Sally,

Thank you so much for attending our wedding, the lovely card and well wishes. We’re so glad you were able to come- we know it’s a long trip.  I hope we’ll get to see you again soon.

          Love,

          Tammy and Josh

While it’s tempting, do not send out a pre-printed card.  Your guests spent a lot of money and time to see you and wish you well in your new life.  Older guests especially will appreciate the time and thoughtfulness of a handwritten thank you note.  Writing out notes can take a while, so cozy up with a glass of wine and a few favorite DVRed shows and you’ll be done in no time!
