Inspiration : Golden Harvest

We talked with Jennifer of Perennial Studio for a closer look into her inspiration behind the design:

The focus for this design is based on natural and pure elements- locally harvested flowers, custom linen napkins and tablecloths, fine metal/glass containers, and native apples picked at the peak of the New England autumnal season. The bridal bouquet features 2 types of perennial anemone: the blush pink “Robustissima” and cream “Honorlie Jobert” as well as the fragrant victorian stock in shades of white and cream – all gathered from the garden that very morning. The groom’s boutonniere is composed of a wild fall orchid and a plum scabiosa. In the copper centerpiece containers we repeat the use of anemone, while adding a burst of color with darker jewel tones, as well as adding bright and textural lady’s mantel as a background filler to help focus the eye on the more interesting blooms.

Inspired by the “Outstanding in the Field” concept used frequently throughout the Napa and Sonoma Valley, the orchard was the perfect place to replicate an authentic, natural design.

The long table reflects the desire for a casual, intimate, yet elegant setting – with a focus on “al fresco” dining – perfect for passing dishes and cultivating conversation.  The palette of the linens, flowers, and accessories complement the surrounding setting – instead of competing with it. The calligraphy place card on each apple is a nice addition and gives a personal touch. The table is aesthetically pleasing – full of color and texture but not overdone.

A budget for this type of design will vary, depending on the quality of materials that you choose. If a cloth or napkin is 100% linen instead of a blend, you definitely will be paying a premium, but the overall look and feel is worth the price. Your guests will notice!  READ MORE...

5 Tips on Planning Your Wedding

Begin Planning a Wedding:

First two items on the agenda: Pick a Place, Pick a Date. While everyone is going to chime in on location and dates, trust your instincts and pick a place and a time of year that is meaningful to only you and your betrothed.. When picking a date, think logically about what fits your schedule ~ wedding planning takes time and energy, therefore, make sure you have time to plan your wedding & pick a date that suits your schedule. As for the place ~ pick something meaningful and within your means. Think about where your guests will be traveling from and the location’s convenience.

Creating your Wedding Guest List:

Another important factor into your wedding budget and location is how many of your nearest and dearest will be coming to celebrate your vows. Creating your master guest list takes time, so don’t expect to finalize the list overnight. There are essentially three sides (more if you involve Step Parents) to the guest list:

Bride / Groom
Bride’s Parents
Groom’s Parents

Have an honest conversation about what the goal of the wedding is. Is it just family? Is it just family and close friends? Is it not all family, just close family? Or, is it everyone you’ve ever encountered in your entire life?  Please keep in mind that you’ll probably trim the ‘fat’ off the list before it is truly final, but this number will be a large indicator on what is a suitable venue for you

Deciding on Your Wedding Style?

Style is an individual experience. The one thing that is a definite though, is that you need to find YOUR wedding style. Something that captures and embodies what you want the wedding to be. Whether it is a traditional or modern feeling, a specific theme, something beachy, fun, city like or rustic and charming, spend time with your soon to be and put thought into your wedding style. Start by defining your personal couple style. Next, start to think about how you visualize the wedding day.  Clip images of things you like. All this information will help your vendors enormously when it comes time to design the wedding day.

Décor, Details & Design:

Once you’ve gotten your venue booked and your wedding style decided, its time to fuse those two and decide on your décor design. The optimal goal in design is to encapsulate elements from many sources:

Venue ~ what does the room look like? What elements should you play to? Is it formal/informal? Is it light and airy or dark and romantic? How does the location play into the venue? Is there a ton of history or something that the area is well known for?

Couple Wedding Style ~ are you really into flowers or not? Do you want something sophisticated, elegant, modern or over the top? Do you prefer non floral elements like berries & fruits? Are you more ethereal and into candles to set the mood?

These are all questions that will come into play as you decide on your décor design. Weddings are meant to be cohesive (i.e. have some element that runs throughout from your Save the Dates/Invites through to the end of the wedding evening), therefore, what can you do in the design concept to run throughout the wedding experience?

Amass your inspiration boards, cut outs and other items that you love into a large collection. Spend time with each image ~ what do you love about it? When you start to meet with Florists, bring a list of Flowers you love (and that are hopefully in season when you are getting married) as well as a list of flowers you dislike. Bring your images to show what you like … even if it’s a simple detail like the color of a ribbon ~ your florist can find inspiration in that.

Savor the Moment the Wedding Can Wait:

Regardless of whether you’ve dreamt about your wedding your entire life, or you’ve never given it a thought, take time to let the good news settle in. Don’t be swayed by family and friends who immediately start asking about wedding dates, wedding dresses, wedding planning … even if you are getting married in only a short time, relax and savor the moment!

Perks of Hiring a Wedding Planner | Expert Advice from EFD Creative

These days brides are able to search for a wealth of information about wedding planning on the internet. Information on anything from wedding styles, decor, venues, and prices can be found easily. However, all of these facts add up to an overwhelming amount after a while and it is difficult to figure out the correct answer. This is when a wedding planner comes into play.  Massachusetts wedding planner, EFD Creative, offers expert advice on how a wedding planner can guide a bride through the internet in search for answers that make the most sense in regard to the bride’s budget and style. EFD Creative claims that you may want to consider hiring if you have asked yourself any of the questions below..

You love the chat boards and wedding sites and have gotten inspired by talking to other brides. However, for every question you ask, you get 10 different answers. How do you know which piece of advice is best for you? The reality is that what works for others may be too expensive for you, and what sounds great for a bride in one part of the country may be completely unrealistic for your event.

You found a great list of vendors and have already started calling a few. Some seem nice, but you’re not sure if you’re getting the most for your money. How do you know what the right cost is for a certain vendor? Can you negotiate with them? Some of them offer services that overlap with other vendors. What’s the best approach that will give you the biggest bang for your buck?

You have a limited budget but you have big dreams! This is a very common scenario with brides. You want the best, but you have to keep things within a certain budget. The more you get into the planning process, the more unexpected expenses keep piling up! Who knew you needed those pretty chairs? But now they are a must! How do you prioritize things, while still getting your dream wedding?

Registry Tips | Expert Advice from Lucia Paul Design

Central Florida wedding planner, Lucia Paul Designs wrote this great expert advice article giving tips about wedding registries.  No longer are couples tied to registering at one store or one catalog, couples now have endless options when it comes to deciding where they are going to register.  Lucia Paul Designs gives great tips to consider when registering … don’t be afraid to be different or go modern – choose a registry that reflects you and your partner, get creative!  Check out the expert wedding advice below and visit my Kate Parker Wedding for more!

Over the years, couples have changed and so have their registries. Modern wedding registries are going beyond linens and toasters. With online shopping and national retailers, there is no set list of items that you must register for. Today, couples are getting married at older ages and may have been living together for quite some time. In addition to the traditional items, couples are also registering for recreational items, such as computers, camping gear, and pet accessories. However, before you arm yourself with the handy little scanner, here are a few tips you may want to consider …

1. It is recommended to register at least 4-6 months in advance. This gives you and your guests time to review and choose.
2. Register with two and maybe three different merchants. This allows your gift givers to have more options. Make sure at least one of the merchants has online capabilities.
3. Do read the terms and conditions of the store’s registry policy before signing. Watch out for extra service charges and policies for discontinued items.
4. Don’t shy away from the expensive items, but do make sure that you have items that fit every budget.
5. Check for completion packages through the retailer. Some offer a discount on items that aren’t purchased on your registry.
6. Do register for extra! Just because you only need 6 place settings now doesn’t mean that’s what you will always need. Look at the big picture and think of the future.
7. Make sure that your registry fits you and your fiancé’s personality – let mom advise but do NOT let your mom dictate what you need (sorry Mom’s).
8. Have a friend check your front door step while you’re on your honeymoon. You don’t want to risk having any gifts stolen while you’re gone.
9. Make sure that you know what you’re registering for; do your research and make informed decisions.

Your registry items are not just material things; it is the vase you will put your Valentines Day flowers in, the wine glasses you will toast with your closest friends and the china that your children remember eating family meals on. So choose carefully and scan wisely.
